Hand Painted Signage. a dying form.
For the past 6 months, artist Matthew Ryan Sharp has been experimenting with traditional sign painting. Using One-Shot Lettering Enamel, Lettering Quills, One-Stroke Liners and Pin-Striping Brushes in order to create signage/advertising of days-gone-by. Creating templates and typographic solutions digitally is the first step in the signage process, followed by carbon transferring and final lettering.
The “Up & Left” exhibition that was just held in Milwaukee, WI in November 2011 was the first exhibition where the artist decided to feature a large body of these hand painted signage. A portion of the install is featured in the above image.
